Building a Hothouse

How to Build a Small Hothouse - Introduction

Design Features:

Ventilation:

Ventilation is provided by a 9in. x din. vent in the foot of each side wall together with a triangular one in the apex of the back gable gives sufficient air for healthy plant growth when used in conjunction with the door. The ventilation is controlled by an inch board hinged to a rail which is nailed outside the rafters. A cord through a hole in the stud and over a small pulley inside can be fastened to a cleat when the vent is sufficiently open. The lower vents are regulated by galvanised iron shutters in right angled slides which are built into the brickwork joints. Besides ventilation, shade is important and can be provided by means of hessian blinds on spring rollers, or verandah type plain rollers with the straight batten at the top.
